Music- My therapy

“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain”
                                                            -Bob Marley

There is not a quote that I have ever found that explains the importance of music in our everyday lives more than this quote. I can’t think of many outlets that provide an escape to another world, that bring you to a place within yourself to unwind and let loose internally. In my opinion there are amplitudes of people in this world that don’t understand the gravity of music and that its everywhere. It’s in the background anonymously while you’re doing your weekly shopping, its playing on the radio in your car while you’re preoccupied with the endless roads and it is present when you plug your headphones in and escape into your own thoughts at the end of the night.

I know for me music has become such an integral part in my life, especially the last few years. I don’t think there is a day where my ears go without the liquid melody that is music. Even when there is no music flowing through my headphones I still find myself humming to a melodious tune like it’s my mantra.  Music has become me and in a way, I have become music. The comfort music has provided me in the toughest of times is indescribable and unfathomable,  I can say whole heartedly that music has helped shape the person that I am today.

“I think music in itself is healing. It’s an explosive
expression of humanity. It’s something we are all
touched by. No matter what culture we’re from,
everyone loves music”
-    Billy Joel

There are so many amazing benefits to music, more than I could write about in this blog post, more benefits than I can probably cite. However, I would still like to highlight some of the biggest impacts before finishing.  As the quote from Billy Joel states above, Music is the ultimate healer for human injuries. We are all plagued with afflictions, both internal and external, physical and emotional and music is the universal remedy. Music explores the emotions we don’t want to unearth while also mending those injuries we didn’t even know we had.

All this ultimately leads to happiness, happiness that as humans we search and strive for every day. The natural high from dopamine released can be compared to nothing else and is fundamentally because of these melodies surrounding all of us day in and day out. This happiness has a domino effect on the rest of our lives and it all begins and ends with music. The stress begins to lessen and the night’s sleep becomes deeper leading to a brighter outlook and positive attitude, can you see the domino effect in motion?

I cannot truly emphasis enough how beneficial music is to our lives without even knowing, its existence goes unnoticed yet its reach goes far beyond the masses. I think that if there is anything that you take away from this post I hope it’s the realization that music is a necessity and we could not possible exist without this physical form of creation. This creation of music has bound the world together and is the one universal language that unites us all, everybody is equal.

Never underestimate the power that music has over us, in fact we should all embrace it and enjoy the journey of self-discovery that music takes us on. It’s a privilege to have the volume of music that surrounds each and every day so why not take advantage and enjoy what the world of music has to offer us.
